Calculators
Cooking conversions
US recipes use cups, European recipes use grams, and your butter might be measured in sticks. These calculators translate between all of them using real ingredient densities — pick a tool and get an exact answer.
Why there is no single "grams to cups" answer
Cups measure volume and grams measure weight, so the conversion depends entirely on what is in the cup. A cup of granulated sugar weighs 200 g, a cup of all-purpose flour weighs 125 g, and a cup of honey weighs 340 g. That is why every converter on this site asks which ingredient you are working with — the density is baked into the result.
For liquids the math is simpler: water, milk and thin batters sit close to 240 g per cup, so grams and milliliters are nearly interchangeable. For anything thicker or drier, use the ingredient-specific tools above or the all-in-one ingredient converter.
Frequently asked questions
Which conversion calculator should I use?
If you have a weight and want a volume, use grams to cups or grams to milliliters. If you have cups and want weight, use cups to grams. For butter specifically, the butter converter is fastest, and the all-in-one ingredient converter shows every unit at once.
Why is there no single grams-to-cups number?
Cups measure volume and grams measure weight, so the answer depends on the ingredient’s density. A cup of sugar (200 g) and a cup of flour (125 g) weigh very different amounts, which is why every calculator here asks what you are converting.
Are these calculators free to use?
Yes. Every calculator on this page is free, works in your browser, and does not require an account or download.
Do the converters work on mobile?
Yes. The calculators are designed for touch screens, with large fields and buttons that are easy to tap at the stove.
Can I print a conversion chart?
Yes. The conversion charts page collects volume, weight, butter, ingredient density and oven temperature tables on one printable page.
